I love making videos. If I could pick a single field to work in it would be title design for TV and movies. I have enjoyed working on all sorts of video projects for everything from art shows to short instructional videos. The one common theme for my work has been that I have never had much of a budget nor have I had nice equipment. But when life gives you limits, make limitaide! These videos range from music videos to entries in a couple title design art shows and a YouTube video. All of them were created by making the most with what I had to hand. The environment, Adobe Premiere pro and Audition, some cell phone cameras, pantyhose and a tall guy, random strangers, a Canon M50 markII and a lot of enthusiasm.

Austin 3:16

Music Video

This music video was the largest project I have undertaken. I scouted locations, tested lighting, found actors... Then took it all out into 100,000 people partying for Santa Barbara's Fiesta. It was an adventure.

Then I settled in, edited it in Premiere Pro and added a little effects work in After effects,

Look Away

Music Video

This music video for the band Niner Niner was pretty strait forward. The key was finding footage that established the mood we wanted. I wanted it to be ambiguous. Is it all about emotions? Desire, shame, frustration, aggression, manipulation? Did anything actually happen? Did someone die or get hurt? Who's the bad guy here? Or is it all just vulnerability and bad thoughts?

Then I put it all together in Premiere Pro and added a little effects work in After Effects and poof.... creepy video.

The 1979 Pirates

YouTube Doc

I was just curious to see if I could produce a long form YouTube video. I also like the 1979 Pirates.

So I got a bunch of images and touched em up, hunted down some muzack, made some title cards and animations, looked up some stats, did a voice over, and poof! A video....

Dismemberment Trend

Music Video

This is a music video I shot for a label called Killer Kern and their artist Do You Compute.

The concept is to have the band go around their home town doing all the cliched things bands do in videos, racking up authenticity points.

This video was all shot on various cell phones at various times. This was a problem, so I used After Effects to make all the footage look like Super 8 era stock. Then I added in the motion graphics.

Florida/Ohio Titles

TV Show Titles

This title sequence was part of the same art show as the Delta titles below. The theme is for a fictitious show about the daily lives of a group/cult of scientists in the 1950s-70s who create a community in the everglades to "develop" their children into space exploring super soldiers.

The footage is all from the Library of Congress. The song is by a band called Three Mile Pilot.

The Blood Meridian

TV Show Titles

This title sequence was created for an art show that required the creators to produce titles for a movie that SHOULD BE MADE.

I designed titles for the Cormac McCarthy book The Blood Meridian. I have the Coen Brothers directing it because they have used his material before. I chose actors I thought would be a good fit for characters in the book. The photos were all taken by me. The song, The Dead Singer by Daughters, was chosen because it sounds as brutal, stripped down and wild as the book but would also be a departure from the "Coen" style to some extent to make it clear this is not a typical Coen Brothers film.

The Delta Titles

TV Show Titles

This video is of a title sequence for a fictitious television show. It is a police mystery set in the poor rural delta south of Memphis. It was part of a group art show.

I did the title design and I also shot all the photos used. The song is by a band called Psuedosix.

The Drummer

Short Film

This was a short film entry from when I was at Cal State Channel Islands.

The goal was to capture a mental/emotional state that is not what most people expect from a particular situation. This needs to be done without anyone verbally SAYING anything about the feeling.

I wanted to create a short that portrays how small time band members often times hang out in an exciting environment but feel isolated, stressed and tired much of the time.
